Anchored directly to your jawbone, this type of denture is not going anywhere thanks to its foundation of dental implants. Implant-supported dentures do come in removable and fixed options with the version you can take out being known as overdentures. Our Greater Orlando, FL, dentists are proud to offer this form of restoration to our patients as it blends multiple trusted dental techniques for an ever stronger result.

Implant-supported dentures are anchored directly to your jawbone and won’t slip thanks to dental implants.

Here’s what you can expect.

Steps Required Before Placement

Unfortunately, a few boxes need to be checked prior to receiving an implant-supported denture. One of which centers around tooth extraction. If our dentists find any severely decayed, damaged, or impacted teeth, we’ll need to remove them for the sake of your oral health. It’s best to take them out now before they cause a problem down the road and conflict with the implants or denture(s).

Our dentists will also take note of your jawbone density when we examine your mouth. If bone loss has occurred, we may suggest a dental bone grafting procedure to rebuild the area. This will take some time to heal completely before each dental implant can be put in place which will then require its own amount of healing. We understand that it may seem like a larger commitment, but many patients feel as though it’s well worth the investment in the end.

Am I a Candidate for Implant-Supported Dentures?

Primary candidates for implant-supported dentures include individuals who are missing most if not all of their teeth. For example, someone who has an entire upper or lower arch of teeth gone can speak with our dentists about restoring their smile using this option. Depending on your situation, we may place 3, 4, 5, or more implants to support the denture.

We can also discuss the potential for a partial implant-supported denture if the teeth missing are not enough to warrant a complete replacement arch. It’s all about finding what you’re comfortable with and our dentists can take it from there.
