Choosing Between Dental Implants and Dentures

Posted on 11/21/2022 by Classic Smiles
Choosing Between Dental Implants and DenturesYou might have heard of various options that are there for missing teeth or not. Whichever the case, it is good that you know what the options are, and which one is better than the other. Implants and dentures are among the top chosen choices opted for by many patients who have missing teeth. Various factors such as preference, the health of remaining teeth and jawbone, and price are all determinants of what suits each individual. In most cases, it is confusing for patients to choose between the two because they both almost have the same resolutions.

Procedure for Implants vs Dentures

Although implants are now more popular than before, they require more bone structure before screwing them into the jaw. If there is any damaged root found, it is first extracted. A hole is then drilled into the root that had been removed previously or simply missing on its own. A post implanted into the bone deeply is then inserted using a crown. However, all of that happens once the bone grows to secure the post around.

Dentures are removable prosthetic teeth that are fitted in a patient's mouth irrespective of insufficient bone. If only a few missing teeth, dentures can be used for each tooth, or they can be used to fully replace the lower or upper jaws missing teeth. That is why they are referred to as partial dentures. If all teeth are to be replaced, an impression of both lower and upper gums is taken. A study for your lower and upper jaw alignment and bite is done, and soon the dentures are created. This is to ensure the length of your dentures does not prevent ideal speech and chewing.

The Cost Of Implants vs Dentures

Dentures and other treatments like bridges have lower prices than implants. Prices vary depending on the location you are at. However, the average cost in all ADA is roughly $1600 and $2200 for each tooth. Maintenance of dentures leads to more costs than implants which are easy and long-lasting.
