Loose Dentures

Posted on 12/5/2022 by Classic Smiles
Loose DenturesNothing is more uncomfortable and irritating than striving to cope with loose dentures. When interacting with others, you will always be covering your mouth as your dentures frequently move around the mouth, causing discomfort. Fortunately, there exists various ways in which our dentist can intervene in the situation and bring forth your normal functionality of dentures in place.

Why Dentures Become Loose

Dentures wearers have been faced with loose dentures due to the process referred to as resorption. Under normal circumstances, dentures are made to grip the existing gum. However, due to aging or deficiency in calcium, gums begin to retract as they no longer hold your teeth as they should. Therefore, dentures will start to slip when talking or eating as they are too big for the previously designed mouth shape. Consequently, this causes painful sores on the gum leading to dental-related challenges.

Solutions to Loose Dentures

At our offices, the dentist will discuss various methods of fixing your loose dentures. Getting a new denture adhesive is a temporary option that can buy you time as you think of getting permanent solutions. Denture relining is an in-office procedure that remolds the inner lining of loose dentures. Soft relining is done by cleaning the dentures, adding polymers, and shaping the mouth. This option lasts for months or even years, depending on the severity of the loosening of the patients' dentures.

On the other hand, hard relining offers a more permanent solution as the newly molded dentures are prepared in the lab using hard denture plastic.

Alternatively, the installation of dental implants by dentists offers solutions to loose dentures. The implants are installed into the jaw and onto the teeth giving strong anchorage to the dentures. Unfortunately, the procedure is expensive and invasive hence not preferable for many. Also, it needs bone health that can fully support implant rods, which many patients lack.
We offer solutions to loose dentures. Please schedule a consultation with us today for quality services.
